Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instruction
Michelle Knapp, 3 Star Parelli Instructor

Michelle has been teaching Natural Horsemanship and dressage for the last 11 years, having been introduced to the Parelli system in 1997, even before there were Levels packs! Prior to her complete immersion into the Parelli program, Michelle started out showing Arabians in a variety of disciplines. She worked for several nationally competitive barns, training horses that won National titles in Dressage, Show Hack, Hunter Pleasure and Hunter O/F.

She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, where she was president of the Prince of Wales Club (the oldest continuously-run equine club) for two years and also managed the annual three-day long charity horse show for two years.

After graduating with a BS in Equine Business Management in 2000, Michelle returned to southern AZ and dove headfirst into studying dressage. She was an officer in the Tucson Dressage Club for 5 years and also helped organize and graduated from the year-long USDF “L” program for judge training, judging many local level shows. Outside of dressage, she taught Pony Club meetings and helped manage a 30,000 acre cow/calf operation in the summers.

In 2004, Michelle delved into the Parelli Program and hasn’t looked back! She has participated in and coordinated many clinics for three different Parelli Professionals and has spent a total of 30 weeks studying at the Parelli centers, including graduating with distinction from the Extern program and subsequently being invited into the Mastery program. Michelle would love to help you on the next leg of your horsemanship journey!

Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instruction
Gretchen Arndt, 2 Star Junior Parelli Instructor

I am a Licensed Instructor of Parelli Natural Horsemanship and am based out of The Horse First Farm in Madison, WI. I am also the Equine Specialist on the Triquestrian team. My background includes riding and horse keeping as a youth, competing in Arabian performance as a youth in dressage and hunt, and participating in the Truman State Equestrian Team throughout college. While at Truman State University in MO, I completed a B.S in Agriculture with a minor in Equine Science. During college, I began to work as an assistant trainer in performance barns, and this led me into a career helping horses and humans have fun and achieve their goals together.

In the early stages of my career, I found myself unfulfilled by the focus on the show ring. When I attended a Parelli event in 2003, it became apparent that the connection between horses and humans could be much stronger than I had ever imagined. My pursuit was now to have the horses in my barn connect with me, truly choose to be with me, and to offer me things out of heart and desire. As I fostered these types of relationships with horses, the fun and fulfillment returned for me. Of course, there was much to be learned, so I began to study the program at home, attend clinics with Parelli Instructors, and attend courses at the Parelli Ranch. To date, I have attended 16 weeks at the Parelli Ranch as a student and 6 months in Professional training as an Instructor. I am currently working towards passing my Level 4 in my horsemanship, and am a 2 Star Junior Instructor since 2010.

I am also rewarded in this career every day by helping students discover the joy of connecting with their horses. Horses are true mirrors of ourselves and they will honestly reflect to us the quality of the relationship that exists between you and your horse. As you open yourself up to this partnership, you will acheive new levels of empathy, patience, and resilience. You will push yourself to broaden your knowledge and gain techniques so that you can offer your horse something truly great. In the quest to be a better horseman, you will become a better person. To be able to help students unlock this in themselves on their horsemanship journey, and have the horses respond and open up to this process is a beautiful thing.

When I'm not playing with horses or people in the barn, I can be found spending time with my dog, cooking, or being active outdoors in all of the seasons WI has to offer.
